Fire Claim
Insurance Initial Offer: $25,091.34
Alert Claims Negotiated Settlement: $271,886.85 (policy limits) + a travel trailer for the client to live in while repairs are being made, that client got to keep.
Alert Claims Negotiated Payment Increase: $246,795.51 or 1083%
Client experienced a devastating house fire. The insurance company sent out an adjuster that did not have experience handling fire claims. As a result, the insurance company's adjuster greatly overlooked the extent of damage and only provided to clean items that were burned, charred, and contaminated with toxic carcinogenic smoke/ soot.
Client hired Alert Claims, which was the best decision they ever made. Alert Claims immediately began negotiating with the insurance company and made it clear that the insurance company was not going to walk all over us. We brought to the insurance company's attention that they hired an inexperienced adjuster and the harm and delay that this has caused our client. Alert Claims submitted to the insurance company an estimate along with supporting documentation and was able to successfully negotiate a settlement for building and personal property policy limits. In addition to the policy limits, Alert Claims also negotiated for the insurance company to purchase a travel trailer for the client and their family to live in while the repairs were being made, that the client gets to keep.
Flood Claim
Alert Claims Negotiated Settlement: $1,500,000
Client had three high rise multi use buildings that flooded.
Even though it was obvious that there was several million dollars in damage and despite the fact that the client was greatly underinsured, the flood insurance company delayed the claim and created what seemed like a million hoops to jump through.
Flood insurance required burdensome paperwork, used complex insurance jargon, and did not make the process clear or easy. As a result, the client hired Alert Claims. Alert Claims stepped up to the plate, took a huge burden off of the client's back. Alert Claims knew what needed to be done and how to do it. Also what the flood insurance company could and could not ask for. Alert Claims navigated the process and negotiated a policy limit payment.
Hurricane Claim
Insurance Initial Offer: $57,200
Alert Claims Negotiated Settlement: $500,000 (policy limit)
Alert Claims Negotiated Payment Increase: $442,800.00 or 874%
Flood insurance company tried to reduce the building owner's coverage from $500,000 to $57,200 as the property was not correctly rated when the insurance was first purchased. Simply due to a technicality. The owner had their insurance for several years and no one from the insurance company ever checked that they had purchased the right insurance, until of course a large loss occurred.
Alert Claims was able to successfully negotiate the claim. Alert Claims was able to get the insurance company to admit they made a mistake with improperly rating the property which should not be held against the building owner. The buildings correct rating caused the annual insurance premium to increase slightly, and as such the building owner was not paying the correct premium since they purchased the building. Alert Claims got the insurance company to accept the premium difference and deduct it out of the claim settlement. This resulted in the building owner having paid the right premium, bringing the claim from $57,200 all the way up to the building owner's policy limit of $500,000.

They also identified wind damage, that we did not even realize we had."

Flood insurance company told the client on their initial phone call that they had a duty to mitigate their damages and that if further damage occurs, that it might not be covered. As a result, an emergency restoration company was hired to cleanup up, cut out the wet materials, and dry out the structure. This was done prior to receiving numbers or any detail from the flood insurance company.
Once the mitigation invoice was received, it was submitted to the flood insurance company. The flood insurance company said that the mitigation invoice was way too high, was not supported by proper drying logs, and as such would not be considered.
Nearly two months had gone by and the flood insurance company had not completed their initial estimate or paid out any money. This is when Alert Claims was hired.
Alert Claims reached out to the flood insurance company and within several days received the insurance company's first estimate and got an initial payment sent to the insured to help them cover the expenses that they were incurring. Flood insurance company's first estimate did not even include the drying equipment or consider the mitigation that was done, it only paid for the electricity to run the drying equipment. If this was not insulting enough, the flood insurance company completely ignored the elevators which had a couple feet of water in them and did not account for any of the business personal property.
Alert Claims was able to work with the restoration company to get the right documentation from them, so that their pricing and scope of work would be considered. Alert Claims was successful in getting the flood insurance company to pay for the emergency mitigation work at face value.
Alert Claims had found hidden corrosion damage to the elevators and also was able to prove that the elevators warranties would be void as a result of the flood damages. Alert Claims was able to successfully and sufficiently negotiate the replacement of the elevators with the flood insurance company.
Alert Claims also inventoried and documented all of the business personal property. Alert Claims was able to negotiate sufficient payment for the flooded business personal property.

Alert Claims Negotiated Settlement: $543,289.95
After flood insurance gave the association a hard time with paying their six figure emergency restoration bill which would have resulted in a large unit owner assessment, Alert Claims was called to get to the bottom of things.
Alert Claims discovered that the reason the flood insurance was giving the association a hard time was because the flood insurance company's adjuster was applying the wrong rules and procedures to their review of the mitigation invoice. Further, Alert Claims found that the mitigation company did not know how to present their invoice for cleanup and dryout to the flood insurance. Alert Claims was able to work with the mitigation company to get the documentation into a compliant format. This resulted in the payment of the full mitigation invoice.
Beyond the mitigation, Alert Claims was able to spot other problems with the flood insurance company's adjustment that the association was unaware of. Flood insurance was accounting for the wrong specs for their elevator and residential grade electrical equipment. Both of these flood insurance company errors resulted in huge underpayments for these items. Alert Claims was able to get the association tens of thousands more for their equipment.
Overall Alert Claims negotiation was a tremendous success

Client filed their claim as soon as they learned that the first floor of their building had flooded. The flood insurance company had hired an independent adjuster to inspect the damages. This independent adjuster told the client that they would not be able to inspect their property for three weeks.
After taking weeks to get the flood insurance company's adjuster to come out and look at the damages, client learned it would take a few months to get an estimate from the flood insurance company. Further, client was offered no money upfront to help with all of their expenses. The insurance company's adjuster also told the client that there damages would not be anywhere near their $500,000 policy limit, even though they had 7' of flood waters in the first floor of 12 apartments and a laundry room.
This is when the client hired Alert Claims. Alert Claims got right on the claim and secured a $100,000

Homeowners were devastated after Hurricane Florence in North Carolina which damaged their lower floor level including washing away some of their concrete slab. Their insurance company initially offered the homeowner just $7,180.67. This was not even close to being enough to repair their house. At risk of financial ruin and losing their house if they could not reach a fair settlement with their insurance, the homeowner hired me to represent them in July 2019. After several months of negotiations, I was able to reach a settlement of $117,338.13! This will allow the homeowner to stay in their house and make all of their repairs.

Several months after a freeze loss, the insurance company presented the homeowner with a payment of $38,114.91 and an estimate detailing what they were paying for.
So the homeowner called several contractors to come by and look at the damages to give them a repair bid. Contractor after contractor came by, looked at the damages and the estimate from the insurance company, and the contractors time and time again laughed. The insurance company estimate was a joke, it was not even in the realistic ballpark of what the repairs would cost to fix.
The homeowner tried to call their insurance company to let them know what the contractors were saying. They were unable to reach anyone at their insurance company, nor were their messages returned. Homeowner hit a brick wall. They asked the contractors what to do. The homeowner was told to contact Alert Claims.
Upon being hired by the homeowner, Alert Claims was able to take over the communications with the insurance company and get responses. Alert Claims knew just what to do and was able to negotiate a fair and reasonable settlement which would provide sufficient funds to complete the repairs.

On top of this, the flood insurance would not accept the contractor quotes for consideration because they were not in the correct format.
Client hired Alert Claims and they couldn't have been more happy with the outcome. Alert Claims was able to sufficiently negotiate a policy limit settlement and even found hidden damage that both the insurance company and the contractor missed.
